About
Art is for everyone and PAC’s aim is to deliver gallery experiences which allow children in Arun to create and learn through art by achieving their Arts Award. With monthly visits to galleries within the triangle of Portsmouth, Brighton and London PAC provides opportunities for young people from all backgrounds to access art through galleries and exhibitions and connect with the wider arts world.
We inspire them to take part in art form challenges from painting to pottery, drawing to decoupage. Our team includes local artists motivated by engaging students in learning and run as family art workshops we open up cross generational participation which by nurturing relationships benefits the adults as much as the children.
It is well documented that engagement in the arts boosts children’s self-esteem. Working towards a qualification like Arts Award sets them a goal and gives them a sense of purpose within a clearly structured programme. They develop creative and critical skills, set themselves challenges, explore the arts, share their achievements and can gain accreditation. This results in a great sense of pride which supports good mental health and a feeling of wellbeing.
Following the Arts Award programme and creating art together develops social skills allowing interaction between different groups of people. We encourage this by devising collaborative projects which practiced from a young age develop transferable skills such as listening, presenting, persuasion and networking. The participants build confidence by sharing skills and gaining pride in their work which, as they progress through the levels, enables the increasing emphasis on self-motivation, resilience, commitment, budgeting and research to be met.
Operating from ‘Creative Heart’ Littlehampton’s community art hub PAC provides a welcoming and supportive environment in the centre of the town in tune with PAC values of inclusivity inspiring excellence.
Our work provides children with improved wellbeing and access to the arts, regardless of background. If you or someone you know would benefit from our programme, please get in touch.
